Editorial Policy
FitFixLife is committed to publishing accurate, evidence-based health and fitness content. This page explains how we create and maintain our content.
Our Approach
Every piece of content on FitFixLife — whether it is a calculator, article, or guide — is built on the same principle: evidence first. We do not publish claims we cannot support with credible sources.
Calculator Methodology
All calculators on FitFixLife use named, peer-reviewed formulas. We do not use proprietary or unverifiable equations. Each tool page identifies the specific formula used and provides citations. Formulas we use include:
- Mifflin-St Jeor (1990) for calorie and BMR calculations
- Harris-Benedict (1918) as an alternative BMR formula
- Katch-McArdle for BMR when lean body mass is known
- WHO Body Mass Index classification for BMI
- Institute of Medicine Dietary Reference Intakes for macros
- Phillips & Van Loon (2011) for protein recommendations
- EFSA (2010) for water intake guidelines
- Epley (1985) for one-rep max estimation
- National Sleep Foundation guidelines for sleep
- Hodgdon & Beckett (1984) U.S. Navy method for body fat
Article Standards
- Minimum 3 credible sources per article
- Sources include: PubMed, NIH, WHO, NASM, peer-reviewed journals, and established medical/scientific institutions
- We do not cite social media, forums, or unverified sources as primary evidence
- Articles are reviewed for factual accuracy before publication
- We use careful, hedged language (e.g. “research suggests”, “may help”) and never make absolute health claims
Trusted Sources
- PubMed (National Library of Medicine)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- World Health Organization (WHO)
- National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
- American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
- International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN)
- Peer-reviewed journals in nutrition and exercise science
