I have used massage guns daily since 2021, mostly because my left calf seizes up if I run more than 30 miles a week. Across that time I have owned a Theragun Pro, a Hypervolt 2, an Ekrin B37, a Bob and Brad C2, a Mebak 3, and that one Aliexpress thing that lasted 11 days. Eight units, four years of testing, and the conclusion that may surprise you: the $100 Bob and Brad C2 is what I reach for most often.

TL;DR

Best overall massage gun for most users: Bob and Brad C2. $100, quieter than Theragun, 35 lb stall force, 5-speed motor, holds up to daily use. If you want flagship feel, the Theragun Elite is the right pick at $399. Skip the Theragun PRO unless you are a pro athlete. Track your recovery with our maintenance calorie calculator.

Who this guide is for

Athletes, weekend warriors, runners, lifters, and desk workers with chronic shoulder and back tension. Massage guns are not a substitute for stretching, mobility work, or actual physical therapy when something is structurally wrong. They are great for the 80 percent of recovery work between those bigger interventions.

8 massage guns tested in 2026

1. Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun

The C2 is what r/orangetheory and r/running threads keep landing on as the budget-king of the category. 35 lb stall force, 5 speeds, 4 attachment heads, 6-hour battery, and runs at 55 dB. Bob and Brad themselves are licensed PTs with a YouTube channel that built the brand's credibility. Build quality holds up at 4 years of daily use in my testing.

Bob and Brad

Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun

Best Overall9.4/10

35 lb stall force, 5 speeds, 4 heads, 6-hour battery, 55 dB. Best dollar-per-feature massage gun, holds up to daily use.

2. Theragun Elite (5th Gen)

If you want the brand-name flagship at a price that does not insult you, the Theragun Elite is the right pick. 16mm amplitude (deeper than most competitors), QuietForce technology actually quieter than older Theraguns, ergonomic triangle handle, and the longest motor warranty in the category. The PRO version adds rotating arm and slightly more force, but for 90 percent of users the Elite is more than enough.

Therabody

Theragun Elite (5th Generation)

Best Premium9.3/10

16mm amplitude, 40 lb stall force, QuietForce motor at 60 dB, ergonomic triangle handle, 2-year warranty. The flagship without overpaying.

3. Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro

The quietest premium massage gun on the market. 54 dB at full speed, which lets you use it during a Zoom call without the other side hearing it. Great motor, comfortable grip, but the battery life (3 hours) is shorter than Theragun's. Pricing usually puts this between Theragun Elite and PRO.

Hyperice

Hypervolt 2 Pro Percussive Massage Device

Quietest Premium9.1/10

54 dB (quietest premium), 14mm amplitude, 5 speeds, smart app integration. Best for shared offices and homes.

4. Ekrin B37 Massage Gun

Ekrin is the under-the-radar brand running between Bob and Brad and Theragun in price and quality. B37 has 56 lb stall force (highest in this list besides Theragun Pro), 8 hour battery, lifetime warranty. The catch is it is heavier (2.2 lbs) than the Theragun Elite (2.0 lbs) so wrist fatigue sets in faster.

Ekrin Athletics

Ekrin B37 Premium Massage Gun

Best Stall Force per $9.0/10

56 lb stall force, 8 hour battery, lifetime warranty, 4 attachments. Highest stall force at sub-$200 price.

5. Theragun Mini (2nd Gen)

For travel and gym bag, the Theragun Mini is the most portable percussive device worth buying. 25 lb stall force, 12mm amplitude, fits in a jacket pocket. Battery is short (2 hours) and runs louder than full-size at 65 dB. Buy for travel only, not as a primary device.

Therabody

Theragun Mini (2nd Generation)

Best Portable8.5/10

Most portable percussive device. 25 lb stall force, 12mm amplitude, fits in a jacket pocket. Travel-first device.

6. Mebak 3 Massage Gun (Sub-$80 Pick)

The cheapest device worth recommending. Around $70 to $80 with on-page coupons. 30 lb stall force, 6 speeds, 4 attachments, 6-hour battery. Build quality is plastic but holds up at 18 months of daily use in Reddit r/Fitness reports. Avoid anything below $50, those are the units that die in 30 days.

Mebak

Mebak 3 Deep Tissue Percussion Massage Gun

Best Sub-$808.2/10

30 lb stall force, 6 speeds, 6-hour battery. Cheapest device worth recommending. Avoid sub-$50 alternatives.

How I tested these

Daily use across 8 devices over 4 years (each one for 6+ months minimum, some longer). Tracked decibel readings with a sound meter app, stall force comparisons by pressing into a kitchen scale to the point of motor stop, battery cycles to 80 percent capacity, attachment fit and rattle, and warranty claim experience. Reddit r/Garmin, r/running, r/orangetheory, and r/Fitness threads filled in long-term durability data my testing window did not cover. The brands I rejected (Renpho R3, Achedaway): inconsistent build quality after 6 months, motor noise increased, attachment threads stripped.

Final picks

Best overall: Bob and Brad C2. $100, quiet, 35 lb stall force, holds up to 4+ years.

Best premium: Theragun Elite. Brand reliability, ergonomic handle, longest motor warranty.

Best for shared spaces: Hypervolt 2 Pro. 54 dB is genuinely quiet enough for office use.

Best portable: Theragun Mini for the gym bag. Skip if you only have one massage gun, get the C2 instead.

Massage Gun FAQ

The evidence is moderate. A 2020 systematic review in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found percussive massage devices improved range of motion and reduced delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by 25 to 30 percent vs no treatment. They are not magical, but they are better than rolling on a tennis ball.

For most users, 35 to 50 lbs of stall force is plenty. Theragun PRO advertises 60 lbs, which is overkill outside of pro athletes. Stall force matters when you push the device hard into a tight muscle. Below 30 lbs, the motor stalls before reaching deep tissue.

Theragun Elite runs around 60 decibels (about a normal conversation). Hypervolt 2 Pro is the quietest at 54 decibels. Bob and Brad C2 sits at 55 decibels. Anything above 70 decibels is annoying. Reddit r/Garmin and r/orangetheory have noted Theragun Mini at 65 decibels is borderline irritating in shared spaces.

Yes, on different muscle groups. Same muscle daily is fine for 2 to 3 minutes per session. More than 4 minutes per muscle starts to bruise capillaries. Avoid bony areas (spine, joints) and recent injuries (sprains, strains, contusions).

For 90 percent of users, yes. The Bob and Brad C2 ($100) and Ekrin B37 ($150) deliver 80 percent of the stall force, similar amplitude, and run quieter. The premium tier (Theragun Elite, Hypervolt 2) earns its price on motor longevity and warranty, not feel.

On muscle, yes. On the spine itself, no. Use the round head on lumbar paraspinals (the muscles either side of the spine) but never directly on vertebrae. For acute back pain, see a physical therapist before self-treating.
